1. What documents are required to hire a car in Portugal?

To hire a car in Portugal, you need a valid driving license, an ID card or passport, and a credit card in the name of the main driver.

2. Can I hire a car with a foreign driving licence?

Yes, as long as your driving license is valid and in Latin script. In some cases, an International Driving Permit (IDP) may be required.

3. What is the minimum age to hire a car in Portugal?

The minimum age to hire a car is generally 21 years, with at least one year of driving experience. However, some vehicle categories may require a higher minimum age.

4. Is there an additional fee for young drivers?

Yes, in many cases, drivers under the age of 25 are subject to an additional young driver fee.

5. What is included in the hire price?

The hire price typically includes unlimited mileage, basic third-party liability insurance, and 24-hour roadside assistance. Additional insurance and extras, such as GPS or child seats, can be added.

6. What are the legal requirements in Portugal regarding child seats?

In Portugal, it is mandatory to use appropriate child seats for children under 12 years old or under 135 cm in height. We offer child seats for hire, but it is necessary to book in advance to ensure availability.

7. Can I return the car in a different city from where I collected it?

Yes, you can return the car at any of our offices, but there is an additional fee for the “one-way” service. Please check the terms when making your booking.

8. How does toll payment work in Portugal?

All our hire cars are equipped with Via Verde devices for automatic toll payment. A service fee of €1.85/day, up to a maximum of €18.50, will be charged. Tolls will be billed to your credit card afterwards.

9. What if I return the car with a different fuel level than when I collected it?

If you return the car with less fuel than indicated at the start of the hire, a refuelling fee will be charged, which may include additional costs.

10. What should I do in case of an accident or breakdown?

In case of an accident or breakdown, contact our 24-hour roadside assistance immediately using the number provided in the hire agreement. If necessary, a towing service and taxi will be dispatched to your location.

11. Can I cross borders with the hired car?

Yes, but only to Spain. You must inform the hire company in advance, and additional costs may apply.

12. Can I add additional drivers to the hire agreement?

Yes, you can add additional drivers to the agreement, but they must present the same documents required for the main driver, and there may be an extra fee per additional driver.

13. What happens if I return the car late?

If you return the car after the agreed time, a late return fee may be charged. To avoid additional costs, we recommend informing us as soon as possible if you need to extend the hire period.
